MAX’s Recruitment Project in Action

MAX contracted with a private organization that specializes in Human Resource Management to use the part-time services of an Employment Specialist/Recruiter, Santosh Thomas.

Santosh and Raphael hold a meeting in ALTEC's conference room

Santosh is stationed at the Montgomery County CareerLink Office in Norristown and represents member organizations, presents employment opportunities in the MH/MR service industry, and screens and identifies candidates for open positions.

Available positions range from clerical openings to clinical roles, with a particular need for direct support professionals. Jobs are available in various settings in hundreds of locations throughout the county.

Santosh also attends community, college, and high school job fairs to identify potential applicants and distributes a weekly candidate list to MAX agencies.

When a candidate calls or emails Santosh, his or her specific skills and interests are distributed to multiple agencies. This is a free employment service for people interested in working the MH/MR field.

The goals of our recruitment project are to:

§         Facilitate the entry of qualified candidates/applicants into the MH/MR service industry, and

§         Create a positive image of employment opportunities in the field.

Santosh and Raphael conclude their meeting at ALTEC

MAX also created a partnership with Montgomery County Community College to develop a Human Services certificate program for direct support professionals in the field. Courses range from basic skills training to

professional development and specialized instruction in areas such as sign language and CPR.

The partnership between MAX and the Montgomery County Community College Human Services Program has evolved into more than a training relationship. This year Diane Haar, Department Head of Human Services, started referring students to Santosh with the intent of providing employees for MAX member agencies.

One of the first students referred was Raphael Menez, hired by ALTEC this semester as an employee. His job also fulfills his practicum requirement. What a match it is! Raphael has become a

valued addition to the ALTEC Community as a trained, caring provider of services to the consumers and a team player with the staff.

If you are interested in working in the human service field, call Santosh Thomas at 610-270-3426, extension 254. Or contact him by email him at maxrecuriter2003@yahoo.com.
